Boston Mayor Proclaims Bad Bunny Day Ahead Of His Fenway Show

Bad Bunny, the beloved Puerto Rican-born rapper, has two Grammys a handful of platinum songs, and now his own day. Before the 28-year-old played a sold-out show at Fenway Stadium on Thursday, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu proclaimed that Aug. 18 will forever be known as Bad Bunny day in Beantown.

They shared a selfie backstage after the show.

Wu said the musician, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, deserved the honor for his commitment to inclusivity through his art.

"Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio has reached millions of people in Latin America through music, art, and most importantly, through inclusiveness. He has revolutionized not only music but fashion by defying gender stereotypes that dictate how we dress as people," the decree reads in part.

Bad Bunny isn't the only musician to have a day named for them in Boston.

Former Mayor Marty Walsh in 2014 proclaimed Aug. 6 as Godsmack Day, according to a Boston Magazine article from that time. Most Bostonians probably don't remember that or the nu metal band eight years later.
